Rather than rush headlong into the dating scene take stock of the situation. If a person is young, it is easier to begin again. Youth does have a certain fearlessness that works well in some situations. On the other hand, the mature person may feel somewhat overwhelmed by the prospect of dating after divorce. The older person has probably not had a date in many years. However, all it takes a little forethought and planning. There is no reason to prevent a mature divorcee from enjoying the company of another man or woman.
One of the main obstacles to dating after divorce is negative feelings. Low feelings of self-worth do not contribute to healthy relationships. Regardless of your age, see yourself as an asset. As in the real world, assets have differing value. Present your value to the wider dating scene. Unlike the real world, your assets are qualities like affection, kindness, intelligence, inner strength and grace. Being prepared to date after divorce means setting a personal standard.
How much you give and receive is entirely up to you. However, some flexibility may be appropriate. Sending out the wrong signals attract the wrong dates. Engaging in a sexual relationship too soon may appear desperate. Low self-esteem is not as valued as confidence in a dating partner. With some thought it is possible to get the balance right and to enjoy dating. After divorce socializing is a normal activity.
